Craps Field Bet

Beginners Bet the Craps Field Bet

The craps field bet is an easy bet and it is suggested that beginners bet the craps field bet when starting out.

Where is the Craps Field Bet Located?

On the craps table, this bet is located in two large squares in the middle of the other bets, right in the middle of the table.  On some craps tables, the space for the craps field bet actually looks like a field in the middle of the table.  You will find the "field" between the "come" space and the "don't pass bar".  The word "field" will be printed on both the spaces where a craps field bet should be placed.  Besides the word "field", the numbers 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 and 12 are also printed within this box on the felt.

A Simple Bet

The craps field bet is a simple bet, and is easy to place.  It plays even money.  There are no complicated rules associated with this bet.  This makes it a good bet for beginners to start with.  The reason for this is that the craps field bet is a bet in which the result is determined after one roll of the dice.  Therefore, if the numbers mentioned above are rolled, you will win the bet, and if not, the money placed on the bet is lost.

A Good Bet

There are 11 possible numbers (or number combinations) that can be thrown in craps.  Seven of these numbers are listed on the field bet.  There are also 16 possible combinations that can result in those seven numbers being thrown.  As an extra bonus, most casinos pay 2 to 1 for the numbers 2 and 12.  These are usually placed in a circle in the space for the field bet.  If you are very lucky, you may find yourself in a casino that pays 3 to 1 for the numbers 2 and 12, however, most casinos do not do this.

Beginners Bet the Craps Field Bet

As explained above, because the craps field bet is a simple bet, it is a good bet for beginners to bet.  Another useful fact about the field bet is that players can bet the table minimum.  This is another reason that beginners bet the craps field bet rather than other more complicated bets at higher stakes.

While the field bet does not have the best odds associated with it in the game of craps, it is certainly far from the worst.

Self-Service Bet

Most of the bets on a craps table are placed by the stickman.  The craps field bet is an exception.  The players place their own bets in the field box.  Players should take care to keep their bets separate from other player's bets.  However, there is little chance for confusion because the bet never stays there more than one round.

Tips

Even though playing the craps field bet is an easy bet to start with for beginners, it is always worthwhile for a new player to play a few free games of online craps, testing out the craps field bet and other craps bets online before playing for real money.
