Definition of the Craps Proposition Bets and their Location
This is a name that covers a group of bets. Proposition bets are bets that are made on a specific outcome of a roll of the dice. Craps proposition bets are craps center bets, so named because of their location on the craps table. While each side of the table is a mirror image, the center bets are not and are used by both sides of the table.
One Roll Bets
Except for the hardways bets, all the proposition bets are one roll bets, meaning that the bet is placed, the dice are thrown, and if the bet wins, the players take their money, and if it loses, the money goes directly to the dealer.
When to Place Craps Proposition Bets
Craps proposition bets can be placed at any time during the game. The bets are placed by the stickman. The player should gently toss their chips to the center of the table and tell the stickman what they would like their bet to be place on. It is, however, appropriate to give the stickman the bet before the dice have been given to the shooter. It is irritating to other players, and also bad etiquette for a player to be tossing their chips into the middle of the table just before the shooter throws the dice.
Craps Proposition Bets
Any Craps - Craps numbers are 2, 3 and 12. The player is betting that the next number thrown will be one of these numbers.
Snake Eyes - The throw that lands with two ones showing is called snake eyes. The player is betting that the next number to be bet will be a 2.
Craps Three - The player is betting that the next number to be thrown will be a 3.
Any Seven - The player is betting that the next number to be thrown will be a 7.
Yo - Eleven - The player is betting that the next number to be thrown will be 11. The reason players call it yo - eleven is because seven and eleven sound quite similar and this helps to avoid any confusion that could arise.
Craps 12 - The player is betting that the next number to be thrown will be a 12.
Horn - This is a bet on a few proposition numbers together. Each of the four numbers need to have at least the minimum bet placed on them. If the minimum bet is $1, then at least $4 needs to be placed on this bet. The four numbers are: 2, 3, 11 and 12. When winning, the player will receive chips according to the odds on the specific number that won, minus the portion of the bets placed on the numbers that did not win.
Hardways - These bets are placed on doubles - 4, 6, 8 and 10. These are all doubles which can be made in other ways as well. For this reason, the 12 is excluded from the list because it can only be made with two sixes, and in no other way. If the number is made as as double, the bet wins. If the number chosen is made in a different way, for example 3 and 1 for 4, or a 7 is rolled before the chosen number is rolled, the bet is lost.
